Compassion
As we were sitting on the train and talking, my friend shared with me an event that deeply effected her life and left a painful scar. As she was sharing and pouring her heart out - all I could see is that she blames the other person for what happened. Being a fairness fanatic - I started to protect the other person - saying that the other person(whom I never met) did so from ignorance not knowing how to do better.
I realized later that my friend did not need my judgment of what happened and who was right and who was wrong - all she wanted is compassion. In that particular moment, in that particular train, all she wanted is somebody to share her pain. I missed an opportunity to feel and express compassion.I missed a chance to get close and intimate with a person I like.
Being Emotional Literate now and reflecting back what there is for me to do?
Clean up and apologize.
That is exactly what I am going to do in the nearest future.
